Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a hard working and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team for the Spring 2026 tax season as an intern. This position may turn into a open-ended full-time contractor position should it be a mutually beneficial fit. The ideal candidate will be pursuing an accounting degree at a local university or be recently graduated and looking to gain entry into the Canadian job market. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for preparing T1 personal tax returns, T2 Corporate Tax Returns, performing bookkeeping, and other ad hoc tasks. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic CPA firm and directly with its owner-operator to provide maximum learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

Prepare T1 personal tax returns using Intuit ProFile software
Prepare T2 corporate tax returns using Intuit ProFile software
Perform bookkeeping and account reconciliations in QBO, ensuring the accuracy of financial data
Assist with client's HST as well as payroll compliance
Assist with marketing efforts (direct mailing, social media advertising, etc.)
Assist with other administrative tasks as required
Requirements

Strong understanding of accounting (journal entries, financial statement preparation, etc.)
Knowledge of Canadian tax (especially personal tax) is beneficial but not required
Intermediate abilities with Microsoft Excel (vlookups, sumif functions, pivot tables, etc.)
Excellent attention to detail and numerical literacy
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently
Strong communication skills
Proactive, fast learner who can utilize AI tools
Relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred;
Completion or Pursuit of a Professional certification such as CPA or international equivalent is a plus
Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar platforms will set you apart
