We are seeking a friendly and organised Shop Assistant to join our retail team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and a proactive attitude to provide outstanding customer service. You must have experience in working in a greeting card / gift shop.

This role involves assisting customers, managing stock, and supporting the overall smooth operation of the shop. The position offers an engaging environment where organisational skills and a keen eye for merchandising are essential.

Duties

Greet customers warmly and assist with their enquiries in a professional manner
Maintain visual merchandising standards to ensure attractive product displays
Restock shelves and organise stock to optimise sales opportunities
Process transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system
Upsell products where appropriate to maximise sales potential
Handle phone calls courteously, providing information and directing enquiries as needed
Manage stock levels and report shortages or discrepancies promptly
Support with general shop maintenance, including cleaning and organisation of the sales area
Assist in organising promotional events or seasonal displays
Requirements

Fluency in English
Happy to work on your own for a few hours at a time
Must have worked in a greeting card / gift shop before
Must have worked with balloons either in a shop or as a hobby
Must be familiar and comfortable using Facebook and Instagram
Must be flexible and available to work overtime around busy periods (Mothers day, Christmas etc)
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse customers
Organisational skills with attention to detail in merchandising and stock management
Basic maths skills for handling transactions and cash register operations
Excellent time management to prioritise tasks efficiently during busy periods
Good phone etiquette and professional demeanour when interacting with customers over the phone or face-to-face
Experience in upselling or suggestive selling techniques is preferred but not essential
Organised, proactive, and able to work well within a team environment

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £12.21 per hour
