Job Description

Position Summary
This position is responsible for assisting the Summer Camp Director in the planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of recreational activities for the Camp Acworth Program.

Position Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs duties related to assisting the Camp Director in providing a safe and friendly environment for campers.
Performs duties and makes decisions consistent with department mission, vision, and core values.
Assists the Camp Director in the daily planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of camp activities and record keeping.
Supervises, directs and leads Camp Counselors and participants in a variety of daily indoor and outdoor activities.
Delivering accurate and timely reports of injuries, safety issues, damage to property, needed repairs, and low inventories of camp supplies to the attention of the Camp Director.
Follows, practices, and helps enforce all rules and safety standards for camp.
Fulfills responsibilities of the Summer Camp Director in his/her absence.
Provides quality customer service to Camp participants and guardians.
Follow verbal and written instructions from superiors and ensures the timely and quality completion of those assigned tasks.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:
Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, peers, and with children of various ages.
Experience in participating in a variety of recreational type activities, extracurricular activities at school, volunteering, and serving the community.
Skills in written and oral communication.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be seventeen (17) years of age or older, those under the age of eighteen (18) must possess a valid work permit.
Must be able to follow all city ordinances, policies, and procedures.
SUPERVISION:
Employee reports directly to the Summer Camp Director. The employee may also be directed by other administrative staff within the department at times. Employee will assist the Director in overseeing counselors, counselors in trainings, and program
participants.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work takes place in an outdoor setting in a variety of weather conditions while participating in moderate to high levels of physical activity including, but not limited to standing, running, swimming, wading, walking, jumping, bending, and minor lifting for long periods of time.

WORK HOURS:
Normal summer camp hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for eight weeks. Special training events are required in the weeks prior to camp starting. Working overtime is required to assist with the extended care program. This is an hourly temporary/seasonal position.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must have full use of upper and lower limbs. Eyeglasses or corrective lenses may be worn to provide 20-20 vision for the incumbent. Hearing aids are also satisfactory.
