Smith’s Pharmacy is a state-of-the-art compounding pharmacy located in Toronto, Ontario, with over 80 years of experience serving the community. We specialize in the preparation of customized formulations, including sterile infusions, bio-identical hormone therapies, pain management compounds, cosmeceutical preparations, and pediatric formulations.
Our pharmacy is uniquely positioned to address unmet medical needs by providing customized compounds when no suitable commercial products are available. All compounded pharmaceutical and nutraceutical preparations are created based on prescriptions and orders from licensed healthcare practitioners and health institutions. These formulations may include specific combinations of pharmaceuticals, supplements, minerals, and vitamins, precisely customized to the required strength, dosage form, and patient needs.
This personalized approach allows Smith’s Pharmacy’s compounding pharmacists and pharmacy professionals to work closely with healthcare providers, hospitals, pharmacies, and practitioners to deliver tailored dosage forms that support optimal patient care and therapeutic outcomes. Maintains knowledge of and adhere to NAPRA’s Model Standards of Practice for Pharmacy Technicians and any provincial regulations for Pharmacy Technician practice
Receives new and repeat prescription orders in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
Prepares and submits orders (e.g. medications, OTC's, special orders) with the exception of controlled drugs and narcotics
Adjudicates third party billing, online and manage manual Third-Party Accounts, collecting outstanding monies from customers where necessary
Answers telephone, ensuring that appropriate telephone etiquette is observed at all times and referring to a pharmacist when necessary
Ensures that all prescriptions (new and refill) have been clinically reviewed and signed off by a Pharmacist prior to releasing the product
Accurately perform and verify complex calculations related to prescription formulations
Releases compounding medication ensuring correct components, weight, labelling and refers to a pharmacist if problems
Recognize when a patient or prescription order requires the assessment of a Pharmacist and ensures referral of the patient or prescription order to the pharmacist
Answers patient/caregiver or other health care provider questions about patients’ prescription information and medication history, and knows when to refer the caller to a pharmacist
Assist in coordinating operation schedule for the compounding labs
May be required to perform inventory management, under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist
Qualifications:
Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (R.Ph.T. designation) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
Previous Sterile/Non-Sterile Compounding Experience is an asset
Very strong attention to detail, with ability to work in a fast-paced, zero-defect environment
Demonstrated ability to be accountable for work produced and action taken is required
Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills
Exceptional customer service skills with a talent for building customer loyalty
Effective communication skills
MS Office/Excel/Outlook
Nexxyss software knowledge preffered
Effective organizational skills, ability to multi task
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
