Position Description
Assists in performing any combination of the following duties: raise, place, and connect girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks according to the layouts or blueprints while working as a crewmember. These duties must be performed in a safe and timely manner with the highest quality possible.
Job Responsibilities
Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
Fasten (rig) steel members to hoist using chain, cable, or rope.
Signal worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
Guide member using tag line (rope) in order to guide it into position.
Pull, push, or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
Force member into final position using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks and hand tools.
Align bolt holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by driving drift pins or handle of spud wrench through holes.
Verify vertical and horizontal alignments of members using plumb bob and level.
Bolt aligned members to keep in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded into place.
Cut and weld steel members to make alterations.
Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
Maintain work area in clean and tidy manner.
Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Preferred 1 to 12 months’ experience working in the construction field
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb, bend, twist, stand and reach repetitively.
Work in hot/cold/damp/cramped environments
40 or more hours per week with possible weekend work
Background check and drug screen based on job location/requirements
Must be able to work at heights up to 200 feet
