As a Junior Project Manager in the Transport team, you’ll deliver a range of transport and structure projects that support safe, reliable infrastructure for the community. Working across multiple projects at once, you’ll manage delivery from planning and procurement through to construction and handover, within agreed scope, time and budget.

The role involves high levels of stakeholder and community engagement and requires strong organisation, commercial awareness, and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing delivery of projects such as street renewals, asset renewals, structures and intersection upgrades
Running multiple projects concurrently and keeping them on track
Leading stakeholder and community engagement professionally and neutrally
Managing procurement, tenders and contractor relationships with commercial confidence
Tracking budgets and contractor costs and addressing cost pressures early
Coordinating internal teams, consultants and contractors
Preparing project documentation, reports and approvals

You’re a motivated and organised project professional who can manage multiple projects at once and keep them moving. You’re comfortable working with contractors, tracking costs, and engaging with stakeholders, while remaining professional, neutral and calm under pressure. You communicate clearly, including translating technical information for non‑technical audiences, and take ownership and accountability for your work.

You’ll bring:

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years’ engineering or industry experience, including 2+ years in project management
Strong time management, administrative and organisational skills
Sound commercial acumen, including experience with tenders, contractors and cost control
Proven stakeholder and community engagement experience
Ability to work independently and handle competing priorities
Project management certification (PMP) and PMBOK knowledge – desirable
Experience in transport and/or structures projects – highly desirable
Experience with SAP and CPMS – desirable

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent, full-time
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
