Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Manurewa - Papakura Local Board team at Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini as the Libraries and Customer Service Assistant

The role is part-time 16 hours (weekends) and fixed term 6 months. This role is suitable for a student looking for varied part-time work. The successful candidate must be flexible to work across the Papakura and Manurewa Local Boards.


Takaanini is a bilingual Whānau Hub that seeks to respond to the call of whānau aspirations to create a place of value and belonging by weaving te ao Māori through our whare. The three pou this whare operates under are:


Pou Maatauranga: An inclusive approach to activate spaces to learn and play.


Pou Hauora: Whaanau live well, are happy and healthy.


Pou Ooritetanga: Equitable access to facilities to grow community wellbeing kaupapa.


This whare is a bold attempt to indigenise how we create space, how we manage resources, how we build teams, how we listen, how we act, how we serve.



He angituutanga: The opportunity


Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini is a treasured community space and home to an exciting range of community programmes and events. We offer programmed and community-led activities as well as venue for hire spaces. This is an exciting opportunity to join our passionate and community-minded team and add your warmth and energy to the alive and inviting environment.


Day to day, your responsibilities will be to:
Deliver a welcoming and responsive service experience for all visitors using the Paataka Koorero.
Provide exceptional customer service and ensure the Paataka Koorero are safe, functional and welcoming places.
Raise the profile and reputation of Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini
Welcome every visitor and provide information and assistance to ensure the visitor experience is rewarding and enjoyable.
Support library programming across the Paataka Koorero
Support in the operational management, administration and performance of the community hub and library.
Have a passion for library services and programming.

You are committed to service excellence, have a flexible approach and friendly manner. You are receptive to working in an agile and collaborative team environment and have a passion for communities and empathy for people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds including the vulnerable.



You are confident expressing your ideas and show flair and creativity in your work and have the ability to demonstrate an understanding of Te Ao Māori values and principles.


This is 16 hours part-time weekend position. It requires flexibility as assistance may be required at activities outside of 9am to 5pm and across the hub and extra hours.
