About the Role

As a Rollingstock Technician - Retrofit, you will be responsible for the precise modification, retrofitting, and upgrading of train systems, working with both hardware and software components. Following detailed work instructions and technical diagrams, you will ensure that all enhancements are implemented safely, efficiently and meet the required standards to maintain the high levels of operational performance. You will actively adhere to all health and safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

What You’ll Do

Interpret Technical Documentation: Read and understand electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings and wiring diagrams.
Execute Retrofit Activities: Perform hands-on modification, installation, and replacement of rolling stock components (hardware and software) strictly following detailed work instructions and engineering specifications.
Utilise Diagnostic Tools: Use a range of diagnostic equipment and software to test modified systems, verify functionality, and troubleshoot any issues that arise during the retrofit process.
Maintain a Safe Workspace: Adhere to all depot health and safety regulations, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), safe isolation procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Work Under Pressure to Meet Deadlines: Manage your workload effectively to complete retrofit tasks within strict project timeframes, maintaining high standards of quality and safety even during high-pressure periods.
Document Work Completed: Accurately record all modifications and test results in documents and company systems, ensuring full traceability and compliance with quality standards.
Collaborate with the Team: Liaise with Engineering, Maintenance and other departments to ensure the retrofit work process can be carried out smoothly.
Requirements

Essential Skills Required:

Trade qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
Experience in heavy vehicle, rail, or industrial maintenance
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
Commitment to safety and quality standards
Desirable Skills:

Previous rail industry experience
Knowledge of rail-specific systems and standards
Welding/fabrication skills
