Job Description
We are seeking an Irrigation Operator to join our dedicated Irrigation team and support the day‑to‑day operation of Tatua’s wastewater treatment and irrigation systems.
As a part of the Environmental Team, you will be responsible for the effective and compliant operation of Tatua’s primary, secondary, and irrigation wastewater systems.
In this role, you will be:
Operating spray irrigation systems, including pod irrigation and centre pivot systems
Setting up and monitoring irrigation & wastewater treatment equipment
Ensuring operations comply with resource consent conditions
Maintaining irrigation and environmental records, logs, and reports
Conducting equipment cleaning, preventative maintenance, and general repairs
Monitoring environmental impacts and escalating potential consent issues
Working closely with farm owners, operators, and internal stakeholders
Supporting irrigation farm operations including maintenance tasks and occasional stock movements.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
Can take responsibility and work independently
Performs well under pressure and adapts to changing priorities
Has strong planning, problem‑solving, mechanical, and communication skills
Enjoys hands‑on outdoor work and is physically fit
Has a good understanding of the agricultural sector, particularly dairying
Has experience using and maintaining agricultural equipment
Is comfortable communicating with stakeholders, including in stressful situations
Is computer literate and accurate with record‑keeping
This is a seven‑day operational environment, so you’ll work a variable day‑shift roster (9‑hour shifts), including weekends.
