Be part of a national team that supports the funding of critical health services.
Build valuable experience across payments systems, contracts and financial processes.
Join a supportive, collaborative team with opportunities to grow your skills.
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Payments Officer, you will be responsible for the efficient and accurate processing of payment transactions and associated data, ensuring all information is complete, compliant and processed on time. You will manage the receipt, collection and processing of claimant payments, along with the eligibility checks and documentation required to support them.

You will work closely with other team members to manage workloads, peer review work where required, and maintain accurate electronic and paper-based records. You will also contribute to improving systems and processes, follow established policies and procedures, and promote modern, efficient ways of working as they are introduced.

A strong focus of the role is providing quality customer service and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This includes responding to queries, researching issues and taking appropriate action to resolve them. You will ensure that your work reflects equity priorities and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and supports the delivery of high-quality outcomes for communities.

About you

You are organised, adaptable and enjoy working with detail and systems in a fast-paced environment.

You will bring:

A relevant graduate or post-graduate qualification (or equivalent experience)
Experience working with claims and payments systems or accounts payable
Strong data entry and data management skills
Customer service experience
Excellent written, listening and verbal communication skills
A high level of computer literacy
The ability to remain composed and focused under pressure
Flexibility and a willingness to learn and take on new challenges
An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to apply its principles in your work
