Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Our busy Tauranga business has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer . You will provide high‑quality geotechnical engineering consultancy services while contributing technical leadership to strengthen WSP’s geotechnical and engineering geology capability. You’ll work closely with regional and national clients, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and play an active role in project delivery, business development, and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver geotechnical investigations, analysis, design, monitoring, and reporting across a range of projects
Manage and contribute to project proposals, design briefs, fee estimates, and offers of service
Lead and support project teams to deliver work on time, on budget, and to a high technical standard
Maintain strong knowledge of relevant legislation, codes, and standards including NZ standards and the NZ Building Code
Build and maintain trusted relationships with key clients, stakeholders, and industry partners
Support business development activities and identify new market opportunities
Champion health, safety, quality, and wellbeing across all project and site activities
Act as a technical mentor and role model within the geotechnical team
About You

You are an experienced geotechnical professional who combines strong technical capability with commercial awareness and confident client engagement. You enjoy working autonomously while contributing positively to team culture and shared success.

You Will Bring

A relevant bachelors engineering degree
CPEng status or progress toward chartership
Tauranga City Council Category 1 or 2 Geotechnical accreditation (or working toward this)
At least 6 years’ consultancy experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
Proven experience in investigations, interpretation, analysis, design, and construction observation
Strong communication skills with the ability to present to clients and stakeholders
A proactive, organised, and solutions‑focused approach, with a client-centric mindset
A current New Zealand driver’s licence
