About the Role

The Head of Learning, Education & Development (LED) leads the design and delivery of learning for all clinical and non‑clinical roles at Wellington Free Ambulance, as well as selected external partners. The role ensures our people have the skills and knowledge to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based patient care and to support the wider organisation.

This position is responsible for developing and implementing a forward‑thinking learning strategy that builds a capable, confident workforce aligned with WFA’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the organisation‑wide learning and development strategy to support the outcomes of Strategy 2030
Oversee learning that grows both clinical and non‑clinical capability, with a strong focus on high‑quality patient outcomes
Ensure compulsory learning is developed, maintained, and delivered effectively across all staff groups
Oversee clinical education to maintain a highly skilled operational workforce that meets performance expectations
Lead and support the LED team to deliver excellent service and outcomes for all stakeholders
Drive continuous improvement across all learning programmes
Work closely with Clinical Governance and Operations teams to ensure alignment and meet organisational needs

Skills and Experiences:
Who we are looking for

We’re looking for a dynamic learning leader who can shape capability across our organisation and inspire excellence in both clinical and non‑clinical practice.

Essential Requirements

Contemporary leadership experience with the ability to drive organisation‑wide learning
Strong background in delivering training within the health sector
Relevant undergraduate qualification
Experience in board reporting and long‑term planning
Creative, pragmatic thinker with a proven record of achieving results
Proficient in the MS Office Suite

Desirable Requirements

Experience in the not‑for‑profit or public benefit sector
Registered health professional or equivalent background
Relevant postgraduate qualification
Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design
Demonstrated ability to deliver training programmes on time and within budget
