Job Description
HEB Construction is a dynamic and innovative leader in the construction of New Zealand's Infrastructure. We are involved with a variety of projects from road construction and maintenance through to earthworks, drainage, marine works, and major projects of national significance.
We’re looking for an experienced Estimator to join our team and use their expertise to help shape the success of major construction projects. You’ll play a key role in preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable bids that position us strongly in the market.
In this role, you’ll bring together the right technical solutions, strong design input, efficient processes, and practical constructability insights to ensure every tender is both innovative and commercially sound. Your ability to balance opportunity and risk will help maintain HEB’s reputation as a leader in the civil construction sector. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
This role can be based in Auckland, Tauranga, Napier, Wellington, or Christchurch.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Reviewing tender and contract documents to ensure the estimate accurately reflects all requirements
Working with design and construction teams to develop cost‑efficient solutions, including estimating specimen designs and supporting optioneering
Preparing and/or checking schedules of quantities to ensure accuracy and completeness
Analysing unsuccessful tenders to identify improvements and applying learnings to future bid
Prepare estimates from first principles with a good understanding of methods, equipment and labour productivities
About You
You’ll bring:
A relevant tertiary qualification
Significant experience (10+ years) preparing cost estimates for civil infrastructure tenders
A strong understanding of construction sequences, programming, and methodologies
Proven experience leading technically diverse teams and building a culture of safe innovation, trust, and loyalty
Expertise in using estimating software packages
Strong commercial awareness
Confident, effective decision‑making skills
Heavy structural focus with experience in bridges, marine, water/wastewater structures
Experience in earthworks, drainage, and road construction is beneficial but not essential
What we offer
At HEB, you’re not just joining a team, you’re joining a workplace that genuinely looks out for you. A highly attractive renumeration package is on offer with relocation assistance included if needed. We’ve got your back with a range of other benefits and a culture built on support and belonging, including:
An extra paid day off each year to celebrate your birthday
Discounted health insurance, free life insurance, access to share scheme and increased KiwiSaver contributions based on tenure.
Access to VINCI share investment opportunities as part of our global group
Fresh fruit at our offices
A variety of wellbeing initiatives
A collaborative, inclusive culture that embraces diversity
Opportunities to grow your career across multiple portfolios and project areas
Working at HEB is more than just a job - it’s a career, and a chance to make a meaningful impact on projects that shape New Zealand’s furture
