Primary objective
Responsible for the security, safety and protection of all staff, patients and visitors as well as the security and protection of
property and assets on the Royal Darwin Hospital Campus

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Identify report and take appropriation action to resolve issues that affect the safety and security of the organisation or

individuals within a timely manner.
2. React to requests for assistance by responding promptly to radio calls, alarms, pagers and phone calls using appropriate

responses for all communication.
3. Provide a customer focused service and participate in quality management programs which enhance the service

provided.
4. Work collaboratively and professionally as part of a team, following safe work practices and in line with Departmental

and Government policies.
5. Manage or assist other staff in managing aggressive, offensive or violent patients, visitors or staff.
6. Receive, receipt and record Patient property including lost and found property on the appropriate Property Register’s.
7. Respond to all fire alarms, liaise with and assist the Northern Territory (NT) Fire Service in code red incidents.
8. Carry out internal, external, mobile and foot patrols and conduct lock up and unlock procedures whilst ensuring that

staff, patients and visitors are compliant with NT Department of Health (DoH) policy and procedures.
9. Maintain all Security Department records, including shift logs, incident registers.
10. Assist staff in locating missing patients and returning them to the appropriate clinical area.
11. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplace.
12. Create and issue Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) Security Identification cards, Swipe Access cards, Security Card and keys

and maintain the relevant Registers

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Sound working knowledge of contemporary security standards and relevant NT legislation.
2. Sound written communication and verbal communication skills, the ability to use negotiation and conflict resolution skills

and understand the complexities of different cultures.
3. Ability to participate in a rotational roster that includes weekends, weekdays, evenings and nights.
4. Current Criminal History Check.
5. Current drivers licence.

Desirable
1. Knowledge and understanding of the relevant sections of Australian Standard (AS) 4485.2 Security for health care

facilities procedures guide and Mental Health Act
2. Certificate II in Security Operations and NT Security Licence
