Montessori Assistant Teacher - Part-Time

Now Hiring: Closing Assistant Teachers & Floaters (Part-Time)
Location: American Montessori Academy – Andersonville/Uptown, Chicago

We are currently looking for dedicated and compassionate full-time Assistant Teachers and Classroom Floaters to join our team at our Montessori school located in the Andersonville/Uptown area of Chicago. These roles work with children ages 0–6 years.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about working in a child-centered Montessori environment. Previous Montessori experience is welcome but not necessary. Candidates who meet Illinois DCFS lead teacher qualifications are preferred. Prior experience in childcare or educational settings is required.

Position Responsibilities:
• Follow guidance and instructions provided by lead teachers, administrators, and colleagues
• Maintain consistent attendance and provide support where needed
• Foster a calm, respectful, and developmentally appropriate environment for children
• Assist during student drop-off and pick-up times
• Supervise and engage with students during various parts of the day, including lessons, outdoor play, nap time, and transitions
• Participate in training sessions and professional development as required
• Monitor children’s behavior and respond in a proactive, supportive way
• Keep accurate records of student activities and progress using school software
• Support daily routines such as snack/lunch preparation and hygiene-related care
• Help with diaper changes, toilet training, and changing clothes when necessary
• Contribute to classroom organization, cleanliness, and material maintenance
• Communicate observations and concerns with lead teachers and school leadership
• Be open to feedback and demonstrate flexibility in response to scheduling changes or classroom needs
• Attend team meetings and contribute to a collaborative school culture
• Take on additional tasks as needed by the school administration

What We’re Looking For:
• Three reference letters submitted upon hiring
• Comfortable standing for extended periods and lifting up to 30 pounds
• Ability to move quickly between seated and standing positions to meet children's needs
• Must pass a background check and TB screening
• High school diploma or equivalent required
