Job Description

The Walgreens PGY1 Community-Based Pharmacy Residency Program is designed to prepare pharmacists to deliver exceptional direct patient care services as community or ambulatory care pharmacists, while also offering opportunities for adjunct faculty positions. This program equips residents to achieve their career aspirations, become leaders in the pharmacy profession, and provide compassionate care to community members, all aligned with Walgreens' mission to enhance community pharmacy practice.

The residency experience takes place at a URAC accredited Walgreens specialty pharmacy located in Phoenix, AZ, an innovative community pharmacy dedicated to offering clinical patient care services and a perfect environment for developing patient care programs. Residents will have a direct impact on patient outcomes through patient counseling, immunization services, and medication therapy management. Responsibilities will also include managing limited distribution medication and maintaining necessary clinical documentation.

This residency is academically affiliated and partially financially supported by Midwestern University College of Pharmacy-Glendale. Residents will engage in teaching and precepting at the College, providing a well-rounded experience.

Key Activities Include:
• Delivering direct patient care in community pharmacy settings
• Participating in public health outreach initiatives
• Developing programs to enhance medication adherence and patient outcomes
• Conducting medication therapy management
• Implementing disease state management programs
• Administering and recommending vaccines
• Creating or refining existing patient care programs
• Completing a teaching certificate program
• Providing clinical instruction and serving as a preceptor for student pharmacists
• Designing and conducting a practice-based research project
• Presenting research findings at regional and national professional conferences

External Basic Qualifications:
• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited institution
• Ability to obtain pharmacist licensure in the state of residency by the deadline
• Submission of residency application materials through PhORCAS
• Participation in the ASHP Resident Matching Program rules
• Certified Immunizer or willingness to become certified within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

Qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records will be considered for employment.

The salary for this position ranges from $18.00 to $31.00 per hour, depending on various factors including location, skills, education, and experience.
