Job Description
Reports to daily assigned safety routes/post (s) to assist students traveling to and from school.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
• Reports to daily assigned safety routes/post (s) to assist students traveling to and from school.
• Reports to daily assigned safety routes/post(s) to assist students traveling to and from bus stops and boarding necessary buses.
• Monitors designated “hot spots” for suspicious behavior and potential conflicts.
• Collaborates with CPD and CPS and instantly reporting any known or potential conflicts to the team lead, supervisor, CPD or CPS.
• Wears a uniform and/or having official identification that clearly defines their status as Community Watchers.
• May at times report to alternative routes around nearby schools due to potential conflicts in the community.
• May at times accompany CPS students on Board-approved school buses shuttling students from their site pickup at the sending school to their welcoming schools.
• May at times be deployed throughout safety routes during school events to take place outside of school arrival and dismissal times including, but not limited to, athletic events, school dances and graduation ceremonies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB:
Education:
• Must be at least 21 years of age old.
• Resident of Roseland community.
Experience:
• Able to work with youth and school community.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Full attendance and participation in supervision and all scheduled trainings.
Other:
• Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required. Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals and community groups.
• Able to work as a cooperative and supportive team member.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
• Constantly moves to assist children in crosswalk.
• Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
• Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
• Frequently moves desks, chairs, tables and easels.
• At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs.
