Job Overview
The Medical Assistant (MA) II functions as an AltaMed ambassador at the assigned clinic, PSC, or Patient Registry team. The MA is welcoming and attentive to the needs of all patients and creates a positive patient experience by managing expectations while demonstrating compassion and respect. The MA assists in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical/clerical support services in the clinical setting. The MA builds relationships with patients, listening to them and gaining their trust. The MA demonstrates compassion and respect and will be proactive in managing patients’ expectations. In addition, the Medical Assistant documents all specialties in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and assists with administrative responsibilities that include providing feedback on Back-Office processes to the Nursing Supervisor/Manager. Lastly, the MA assists in achieving department goals and objectives by providing support and guidance to the Medical Assistant team as a mentor and trainer. If working at the Patient Service Center, the MA provides other duties over the telephone.
Minimum Requirements
• A Medical Assistant certificate, along with a high school diploma or equivalent required.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience as a back office Medical Assistant preferred in the outpatient setting, medical practice, or clinic setting.
• Phlebotomy certified preferred
• Nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification, preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese, depending on location, strongly preferred.
• A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.
Compensation
$26.00 - $30.55 hourly

• Assesses patients, measure vital signs, and obtain pertinent information as required per visit type.

Explains procedures to patients, answers questions as needed and/or allay their anxiety by providing them with additional time and/or information to make informed decisions. Determine and assess patient’s understanding of information provided to them.
• Reviews and obtains informed consents from patients. Check for accuracy of consent/forms prior to filing into patient’s electronic health record.
• Reviews patient’s electronic medical record for completion and accuracy; makes sure that test results are in the electronic health records prior to the patient being seen by the physician/provider. Obtain any missing report as needed.
• Assists physician in examination and treatment of patients.
• Administers medication and/or immunization. Accurately documents completed information regarding medication/immunization in patient’s electronic health record and other data base registry as needed. Knowledgeable of CAIR system preferred.
• Ensure that all orders and office services are completed and submitted for billing purpose.
• Maintains and stocks rooms with patient care supplies, sterilizes equipment, and keeps work area clean, orderly and functional. Check, set up exam rooms and assist in the opening and closing of department.
• Performs other functions of a medical assistant both in the front and the back office as needed. Assist in discharging patient from care, placing orders, referrals, appointment scheduling, answering phones, maintaining front desk and back office supplies, etc.

• This is a fully on-site position in Downtown Los Angeles, California.
Schedule
• Monday-Saturday (In the case that you are scheduled for a Saturday you would have a floating day off during the week).
• Start time between 7:00am-9:00am for an 8-hour shift.

• Assesses patients, measure vital signs, and obtain pertinent information as required per visit type.
• Records accurate information obtained from patient or parent/guardian in the electronic health record in a timely manner.
• Prepares patient for examination, treatment and/or procedures. Explains procedures to patients, answers questions as needed and/or allay their anxiety by providing them with additional time and/or information to make informed decisions. Determine and assess patient’s understanding of information provided to them.
• Reviews and obtains informed consents from patients. Check for accuracy of consent/forms prior to filing into patient’s electronic health record.
• Reviews patient’s electronic medical record for completion and accuracy; makes sure that test results are in the electronic health records prior to the patient being seen by the physician/provider. Obtain any missing report as needed.
• Assists physician in examination and treatment of patients.
• Administers medication and/or immunization. Accurately documents completed information regarding medication/immunization in patient’s electronic health record and other data base registry as needed. Knowledgeable of CAIR system preferred.
• Ensure that all orders and office services are completed and submitted for billing purpose.
• Maintains and stocks rooms with patient care supplies, sterilizes equipment, and keeps work area clean, orderly and functional. Check, set up exam rooms and assist in the opening and closing of department.
• Performs other functions of a medical assistant both in the front and the back office as needed. Assist in discharging patient from care, placing orders, referrals, appointment scheduling, answering phones, maintaining front desk and back office supplies, etc.

• This is a fully on-site position in Downtown Los Angeles, California.
Schedule
• Monday-Saturday (In the case that you are scheduled for a Saturday you would have a floating day off during the week).
• Start time between 7:00am-9:00am for an 8-hour shift.
