Job Description

About Us

We are a growing design-build firm based in Chicago specializing in small medical office build-outs. We are known for our striking design work, and for our adherence to the schedule and budget.

We are seeking a skilled MEP Engineer to join our team and lead engineering design for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across our healthcare-focused projects.

Position Overview

The MEP Engineer will be responsible for performing engineering calculations, system design, and producing coordinated construction drawings for small medical office projects. This role works closely with the architects and construction team to deliver code-compliant, permit-ready, and cost-effective building systems within the City of Chicago and surrounding municipalities.

We understand that many engineers specialize in Mechanical or Electrical engineering, and we would be open to discussing collaborative ideas for outsourcing calculations.

Key Responsibilities
• Perform HVAC load calculations (heating/cooling) and equipment sizing
• Design HVAC systems, including rooftop units, split systems, ventilation, and duct layout
• Design electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, panel schedules, and load calculations
• Design plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, and vent (design of medical gas systems would be a bonus)
• Prepare complete MEP drawing sets in Revit for permit submission
• Ensure compliance with:
• Municipal Building Codes
• Energy Conservation Code
• Illinois Plumbing Code
• IECC (as applicable)
• Healthcare-specific regulations
• Coordinate directly with in-house architectural teams
• Respond to City plan review comments and contractor RFIs
• Support construction administration and site visits as needed

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois preferred (or ability to obtain)
• 3–7+ years of MEP design experience
• Experience with healthcare or medical office projects strongly preferred
• Proficiency in Revit (required)
• Strong understanding of Chicagoland permitting and inspection processes
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Experience
• Experience working on projects within the City of Chicago
• Familiarity with IDPH requirements for medical facilities
• Experience designing for tenant improvement and adaptive reuse projects
• Knowledge of energy-efficient and sustainable system design

What We Offer
• Competitive salary (commensurate with experience)
• Health benefits
• Paid time off and holidays
• Collaborative, architecture-led design environment
• Opportunity to grow into a senior engineering leadership role
