Salary range: $109,164 to $148,321 per annum
Pay structure: Fixed annual salary. No commission, bonus, or variable pay applies.

About the role

ASB is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work within the Digital Enhancer Squad, part of our Digital Platform area. The purpose of this role is to deliver technical uplift, database migration and modernisation, legacy remediation, and security improvement work across ASB’s digital platforms.

The work performed by this squad is largely non-customer facing and focuses on improving platform stability, performance, security, and long‑term maintainability. The role requires specialist technical experience working with legacy systems, enterprise databases, and backend platforms in complex environments.

Key tasks and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Designing, building, and supporting backend systems using C# and the .NET framework, including Web APIs and REST APIs used by enterprise platforms.
Performing database migration and modernisation work, particularly using Microsoft SQL Server and T‑SQL, including schema changes, data movement, and performance optimisation.
Delivering technical uplift initiatives to reduce platform risk, technical debt, and operational fragility.
Supporting the remediation and improvement of legacy systems, ensuring changes are delivered safely and with minimal customer or operational impact.
Contributing to data integration and ETL processes required to support core digital systems.
Supporting security remediation activities, including authentication improvements and remediation of service accounts and credentials where required.
Developing and maintaining automation and scripting solutions to reduce manual effort and improve the reliability of uplift activities.
Working within an agile delivery environment, using enterprise delivery tools to plan, track, and deliver work.
Collaborating with engineers, platform teams, and other stakeholders across the organisation, recognising that the squad’s work supports shared systems relied on by multiple teams.
Minimum experience, skills and specifications required

Applicants must meet all of the following minimum requirements:

Demonstrated commercial experience developing backend systems using C# and the .NET framework, including building and supporting Web APIs and REST APIs in production environments.
Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including advanced T‑SQL, database design, data manipulation, and performance optimisation.
Proven experience delivering database migration, data modernisation, or legacy system uplift work within complex application environments.
Experience contributing to the remediation and improvement of legacy platforms or applications, ensuring safe delivery with appropriate risk controls.
Practical experience working with data integration or ETL processes, supporting the movement and transformation of data between systems.
Experience working in environments with a strong focus on security, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Ability to develop or maintain automation or scripting solutions (for example PowerShell or equivalent tools).
Experience working in an enterprise agile delivery environment, collaborating across multiple teams and stakeholders.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
