Job Description

General Responsibilities

To demonstrate a genuine passion for teaching and learning, with a strong understanding of Additional Learning Needs and the complex needs of vulnerable young people, including those with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
To actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, striving for excellence in outcomes for both pupils and staff.
To embody and promote the vision, values and ethos of the service, ensuring these are consistently reflected in practice.
To prioritise and promote high standards of pastoral care, wellbeing and safeguarding for all pupils.
To work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to enhance provision and strengthen whole-school effectiveness.
Job-Specific Responsibilities

To design, deliver and evaluate engaging, inclusive and highly personalised learning experiences at the outdoor base and life skills unit, supporting pupils to develop independence, resilience and confidence.
To lead and develop a high-quality Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, adapting provision to meet the diverse needs of pupils and enabling them to successfully access and achieve this nationally recognised award.
To establish, develop and sustain a small animal provision, delivering structured animal care learning opportunities that promote responsibility, empathy and practical skills across the school.
To lead the ongoing development of the Living Skills Programme, ensuring it is robust, progressive and accessible, and that all learners are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for independent living.
To share best practice, resources and strategies with colleagues, supporting high-quality teaching and learning across the provision.
Whole-School Contribution

To work closely with the Teaching and Learning Lead to ensure that the quality of education, values and ethos established at the Cardiff site are consistently embedded and reflected within the outdoor provision.
To contribute to the strategic development of the provision, ensuring alignment with whole-school priorities and continuous improvement in pupil outcomes.
Desirable Requirements:

- Teaching qualification or experience.

- Experience working with children or young people is essential.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

- Ability to use school transport for trips and external activities.

- Strong organisational and time management skills.

- Experience working with students with additional learning needs.

- A relevant degree or qualification in education or a related field.

- Experience working in an independent school or alternative education setting.
