Department: Programming & Experience - Costuming

Position Type: Seasonal

Contract Start Date: March 16, 2026

Contract End Date: September 7, 2026

Hourly Wage: $17.50

Hours: 35 hours per week

Heritage Park is Canada's largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings, costumed interpreters, working antiques, and various exhibits that provide insight into the region's past.


Job Overview:


Under the direction of the Manager, Costuming, the Costume Wardrobe Assistant is responsible for assisting the Costume Coordinator in preparing outgoing costumes and Summer Camp laundry. Additionally, they will assist the Designer with fabric cutting. As a client-facing role on the Costuming team, the position will ensure efficient provision of services while maintaining a positive experience for all visitors to the department.

Responsibilities:


Operational Support

Assist the Costume Coordinator to pull, bundle and process costumes for distribution to staff and volunteers in a timely manner
Process proper paperwork and maintain records for assigning and returning costumes with efficiency, organization and accuracy
Deliver an exceptional client service experience while assisting individuals who visit to procure costumes
Support the Costuming team by assisting with walk-in pick-ups and repairs for individual staff and volunteers
Utilize sewing and alteration capabilities for small repairs and alterations to garments with efficiency and accuracy to the Costuming departments specifications and quality standards
Ensure adequate supply and efficient provision of costumes for kids’ summer camp through advance preparation and accurate documentation
Launder, iron and repair costumes for kid’s summer camps
Work closely with the Designer to assist in layout design and production fabric cutting
Organizational Excellence and Wellbeing

Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Park's Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), following safe work practices, reporting work-related incidents, injuries and hazards, participating in employer training, and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy

Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people, collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity, sustainability, and a focus on long-term benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
Perform other duties as required
Required Qualifications:

Minimum secondary school education is required.; post-secondary education in clothing or costume construction would be an asset
Prior experience with industrial sewing machines is an asset; experience with a home sewing machine will also be considered
Good sewing and alteration skills
Good cutting and pattern knowledge
Strong organizational and time management skills
Basic computer skills
Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills in a client-faced setting
All successful candidates will be required to go through Police Information Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening if working with minors) as a condition of employment
Special Clothing and Equipment:

Appropriate costuming and safety equipment will be provided by Heritage Park if applicable;
Footwear, as designated by the Heritage Park Costume Department, will be provided by the employee.
Special Working Conditions:

The job may require some lifting, climbing safety ladders, and working with industrial sewing machines and steam irons.
Will be required to work alone and with others.
Hours of Work:

The standard hours for this position are 35 hours per week;
The schedule will generally be five consecutive days per week (Monday to Friday);
Working weekends will be required for the months of July and August
