We are partnering with a fast-growing food manufacturing company in Calgary that is currently in the setup phase of a new production facility.
The company is backed by an experienced leadership team with a strong track record in the industry, focusing on high-quality food production and scalable operations in the North American market.
As the business continues to expand, they are building out their core team and looking for detail-oriented professionals to support day-to-day operations.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support day-to-day financial operations for a fast-growing pet food manufacturing business.
This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring timely reconciliation of transactions across systems (ERP, banking, and internal reports). The ideal candidate is highly organized, reliable, and comfortable working in a bilingual (English and Mandarin) environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES1. Daily Accounting Operations
Record daily financial transactions in the accounting system
Maintain general ledger accuracy and organization
Assist with month-end and year-end closing
2. Accounts Payable (AP)
Process vendor invoices (raw materials, packaging, logistics, etc.)
Verify invoices against purchase orders and receiving records
Prepare and schedule payments
3. Accounts Receivable (AR)
Generate customer invoices based on sales orders
Track incoming payments and follow up on outstanding balances
Reconcile AR aging reports
4. Bank & Account Reconciliation
Perform monthly bank reconciliations
Investigate discrepancies and resolve issues
Maintain accurate cash position tracking
5. Inventory & Cost Support
Assist in inventory tracking and reconciliation
Support cost tracking (raw materials, production, packaging)
Work with operations/PMC to validate production-related costs
6. Compliance & Documentation
Maintain organized financial records and documentation
Support audits and tax filings
Ensure compliance with company policies and local regulations
7. Cross-Functional Coordination
Collaborate with operations, procurement, and sales teams
Ensure alignment between ERP data and financial records
Support process improvements and automation initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
1-3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
Experience in manufacturing or inventory-based business preferred
Proficiency in QuickBooks is required; experience with ERP systems is preferred
Strong Excel skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate and timely financial records
Ability to perform reconciliations, investigate variances, and ensure data accuracy
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Proactive mindset with the ability to improve processes and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
English required; additional language skills (e.g., Mandarin) are an asset.
Nice to Have
Experience with inventory accounting
Exposure to data tools (e.g., Power BI)
Experience supporting audits
Basic understanding of cost accounting
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Requirements
This role is primarily office-based and involves extended periods of sitting, working at a computer, and using standard office equipment. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 10–15 lbs) may be required when handling documents or supplies.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in an office setting. From time to time, the role may require interaction with production or warehouse areas, which may involve exposure to noise, temperature variations, and food production environments. Appropriate safety guidelines and protocols must be followed when accessing these areas.
Location: Remote within the Calgary area until October 2026; on-site in the Calgary Balzac office thereafter
Pay: $20.00-$31.25 per hour
Ability to commute/relocate:
Calgary, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
