Job Description
Dignity NZ
Industrial / Product Deigner
Wellington City Centre, Wellington, Wellington
$28.00 per hour
contractor
Start Date: April 14, 2026
Hours Per Week: 6.00
The Mission
Dignity exists to ensure everyone in Aotearoa has access to period products — no shame, no stigma, no barriers. Through our award-winning workplace programme, we provide free period care to employees and donate thousands of products to people in need. We’re building a future where periods never hold anyone back — and we’re just getting started. You can read more about us here on our website.
The Role
This is a rare opportunity for a final-year Industrial Design student or recent grad to lead the hardware development of a brand-new physical product. We want someone to help work with us to reinvent the period dispenser from the ground up. You’ll take a high-level concept and turn it into a premium, sustainable, production-ready reality that sits in the best workplaces across the country.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You’re
A technical creative: You live in CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Rhino) but you think like an artist.
A "Flat-Pack" enthusiast: You understand the magic of sheet metal, CNC routing, and clever joinery
Obsessed with the "Matt" look: You understand how material choice and finish (Powder-coating, Satin Acrylics, Sintra) elevate a product from "utility" to "architectural."
Sustainable by design: You’d rather find a clever way to fold a single sheet of aluminum than waste money on a plastic mold.
A Prototyper: You love the smell of a workshop and aren't afraid to get hands-on with 3D prints and physical mock-ups.
Discreet & Professional: You understand that "Stealth Mode" means keeping the blueprints under lock and key until we’re ready to launch.
What We’re Not Into
Over-complicating things just because you can.
Designing products that are impossible or too expensive to actually make.
"Off-the-shelf" boring industrial boxes.
Shying away from the word period.
What You’ll Get
Real Social Impact: Your design will literally help deliver period equity to thousands of people.
Startup Experience: Learn how to take a hardware product from $0 to production on a lean budget.
Flexible hours: We work around your studio hand-ins or your post-grad schedule.
A desk in our Wellington CBD office: Right next to the amazing Glou Glou Café.
Free period products (obviously).
