Full job description
Family & Insolvency Litigation Legal Assistant — Edmonton, Alberta
Prowse Barrette LLP
Overview
At Prowse Barrette LLP, we believe a law firm should be more than just a place to work — it should be a place where talented people feel supported, valued, and able to do their best work. Our team lives our core values every day: embracing challenges, being creative, nurturing curiosity, and looking after each other.
We are an established and growing mid-sized firm in downtown Edmonton. As our family and insolvency litigation practices continue to expand, we are excited to welcome a Legal Assistant who is motivated, takes pride in producing excellent work, and thrives in an environment where high standards are paired with genuine support. If you enjoy contributing to a strong team and appreciate a workplace that invests in your success, you will feel right at home here.
We offer competitive salaries, a supportive team environment, and cover the cost of a monthly transit pass for employees who use public transportation — with bus and LRT access right outside our building.
If you are proactive, detail-oriented, and want a role where your contributions are recognized and valued, we would love to connect.
Key Responsibilities
· Implement efficient file management systems, including conflict searches, file openings, and database maintenance
· Prepare and proofread correspondence, pleadings, court forms, and legal documents related primarily to family and insolvency litigation matters
· Manage case files and provide administrative support to multiple lawyers
· Coordinate with courts, clients, trustees, and opposing counsel respecting scheduling, filings, and documentation
· Communicate with court staff and book hearing dates
· Coordinate with process servers for service of documents
· Always maintain strict client confidentiality
· Collaborate closely with administrative and support staff
· Follow firm policies and procedures
· Demonstrate strong communication, problem-solving, and a proactive approach to daily work
Qualifications
Legal Assistant or Paralegal diploma/certification
Experience supporting family law and/or insolvency litigation files is strongly preferred
Intermediate to advanced MS Office proficiency
Strong proofreading and document accuracy skills
Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple priorities
Professional, client-centered communication style
Experience with Justice Digital and email filing
CLIO experience is an asset but not required
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail
If you bring initiative, pride in your work, and a collaborative mindset, you will enjoy the culture we have built. It is a great place to spend your workdays.
