Job Description

# Carpenter and Joiner

## Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Carpenter and Joiner to join our team and contribute to a wide range of residential, commercial, and construction projects across the region. The successful candidate will be responsible for constructing, installing, renovating, and repairing timber structures and fixtures to a high standard of craftsmanship. This role suits a trade-qualified professional who takes pride in precision workmanship and is capable of working both independently and collaboratively on site. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of building specifications, materials, and construction techniques, with a commitment to safety and quality in every task.

## Key Responsibilities

- Study architectural drawings and project specifications to determine required materials, dimensions, and appropriate installation procedures before commencing work
- Order, select, and inspect timbers and building materials, and prepare accurate layouts to guide construction and installation activities
- Cut, shape, and assemble timber and other materials, securing components through nailing, screwing, adhesive bonding, and other joinery techniques
- Erect structural frameworks, roof framing, and sub-flooring, laying floorboards and verifying the trueness and alignment of structures using levels and measuring instruments
- Fit and install exterior wall cladding, fascia panels, sheathing, and door and window frames to meet project specifications and weatherproofing requirements
- Assemble and prepare prefabricated and custom timber components for installation, ensuring all fittings meet dimensional tolerances and finish standards
- Cut precise timber joints — including mortise and tenon, dovetail, and housing joints — to produce structurally sound and aesthetically consistent work
- Construct concrete formwork for foundations, slabs, and structural pours as required by project scope
- Repair, restore, and replace existing timber fittings, structures, and fixtures, assessing wear and damage to determine the most effective method of remediation
- Work with a variety of materials including plastic laminates, Perspex, and metals where project requirements demand versatility beyond traditional timber joinery
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment at all times, adhering to site-specific Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and relevant Australian Standards
- Liaise effectively with site supervisors, contractors, and other trades to coordinate workflow, manage timelines, and ensure project milestones are met

## Required Qualifications & Skills

- Completed trade qualification in Carpentry and Joinery (Certificate III in Carpentry, or equivalent recognised Australian qualification)
- Current Construction Induction Card (White Card) as required for work on Australian construction sites
- Demonstrated experience working across residential, commercial, or fit-out construction environments
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings, technical plans, and engineering specifications
- Strong working knowledge of Australian building codes, standards, and WHS legislation
- Practical ability to operate and maintain a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and machinery safely and effectively
- Sound understanding of timber species, engineered wood products, and alternative building materials including laminates and metals
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in measuring, cutting, and fitting components
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a broader construction team
- Valid driver's licence and reliable means of transport to access various project sites

## Preferred Qualifications

- Certificate IV in Building and Construction or higher qualification in a relevant discipline
- Experience with concrete formwork construction on commercial or civil projects
- Familiarity with sustainable building practices and green construction materials
- Previous experience in heritage restoration or high-end joinery and cabinetry work
- Working knowledge of estimating, job costing, or project scheduling tools
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
- Experience supervising or mentoring apprentices on site

## Why Join Us?

- Be part of a reputable and growing organisation with a strong pipeline of diverse and rewarding projects across residential and commercial sectors
- Benefit from ongoing professional development opportunities, including access to further trade training and upskilling programmes
- Enjoy a supportive team culture that values craftsmanship, safety, and the wellbeing of every team member on and off the tools
- Access a competitive remuneration package with superannuation, and the opportunity to grow your earnings in line with skills and experience
