Laboratory Technician / CourierCytogenetics Laboratory – Full Time
We are a well-established specialist cytogenetics laboratory with over 30 years of experience delivering high-quality clinical diagnostic services across Australia. Our laboratory is recognised for exceptional service standards and some of the fastest turnaround times in the country.We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Laboratory Technician / Courier.This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in medical science, pathology, genetics, or laboratory operations who is looking to build practical skills in a specialised diagnostic environment. Previous laboratory experience is not essential, as full training will be provided on site.
About the Role
This position combines hands-on laboratory support with courier responsibilities. The successful applicant will be trained across a broad range of laboratory processes and will play an important role in maintaining workflow accuracy, specimen integrity, and timely service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Specimen reception, including interpretation of request forms and patient data entry
Specimen setup, culture and processing
Slide preparation
Introduction to G-banded and solid-stained chromosome identification and karyotyping
Progressive training in microscopic chromosome analysis of patient metaphases
Reagent preparation
Glassware cleaning and autoclave operation
Courier duties, including report delivery and specimen collection
About You
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organisational skills and methodical work habits
Reliability, punctuality, and accountability
Interest in laboratory science, genetics, or healthcare diagnostics
Ability to follow protocols precisely and maintain accurate records
Professional presentation and clear communication skills
Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team
Motivation to learn and develop within a specialised laboratory setting
Essential Requirements
Current automatic driver’s licence
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Basic computer literacy and confidence with data entry
Desirable (but not essential)
Relevant TAFE qualification or tertiary study in laboratory science, pathology, biology, medical science, or related fields
Previous laboratory, courier, or healthcare experience
