Job Description

About Us:

Settlers Bay Lodge is a destination restaurant overlooking the Knik Arm, known for elevated Alaskan cuisine, warm hospitality, and a team that feels more like family than coworkers. We believe in growth, teamwork, and taking pride in our craft — every plate, every guest, every time.

We’re looking for a talented and motivated Sous Chef to join our culinary leadership team. This role works alongside our Executive Chef to help lead daily operations, support our back-of-house leadership, and continue elevating the standards that have made our kitchen what it is today.

The addition of this position is part of our ongoing growth — an opportunity to strengthen an already exceptional team that’s accomplished so much together, including being named the 2025 Alaska CHARR Restaurant of the Year. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes initiative, and leads with collaboration and care.

What you’ll do:

Support the Executive Chef in menu execution, prep management, and line leadership.
Mentor and collaborate with lead line cooks, prep leads, and the broader kitchen team.
Maintain food quality, presentation standards, and consistency across all services.
Supervise and train line cooks, prep cooks, and dish team members.
Monitor inventory, prep levels, and daily ordering.
Ensure kitchen cleanliness and safety protocols are upheld.
Lead the team when the Executive Chef is off duty.
Assist with banquets, events, and fresh-sheet menu development.
Basic qualifications:

3+ years of professional kitchen experience
Strong communication and organization skills.
Passion for food, hospitality, and mentoring others.
Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.
ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred qualifications:

Banquet experience to manage large-scale events effectively
Supervising experience to lead a diverse kitchen team confidently
Culinary experience with a strong foundation in cooking techniques and food preparation
Knowledge of food service management principles, including catering and restaurant management
Why you’ll love it here:
