The Opportunity
Veolia is a global leader in environmental services, committed to sustainable development and delivering essential water and wastewater services. We're seeking a skilled and dedicated Wastewater Treatment Operator to join our team at the Queenstown and Wanaka Wastewater Treatment Plants.

What you'll be responsible for
As a Wastewater Treatment Operator, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring our wastewater treatment plants operate at peak efficiency while meeting all contractual and legislative obligations. You'll work independently and as part of a team to maintain the best possible effluent quality and keep our facilities running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment (planned, routine, and breakdown maintenance)
Monitor operations to ensure compliance with discharge quality standards and resource consents
Perform fault-finding and repairs on mechanical equipment using workshop tools
Generate work orders and organise consumables, materials, and spares
Identify and escalate maintenance and process issues promptly
Participate in on-call duty rosters
Contribute to Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Environmental Management Systems
Work at remote locations as required
Share knowledge and collaborate with internal staff
What you'll need to be successful
Essential Qualifications & Experience:

Trades Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Fitter & Turner or similar)
Hands-on mechanical experience
Computer literacy
Proven ability to fault-find on mechanical equipment
Strong problem-solving skills
Experience in water/wastewater or process industry (preferred)

Self-starter with ability to work autonomously

Strong analytical and communication skills
High personal integrity and positive attitude
Keen eye for detail
Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances
Excellent customer service orientation
