Job Description

Position: Mechanic

Work Location: 8336 West Parks Hwy Wasilla, AK 99629

Mission: To provide accessible, sustainable, reliable, efficient and quality public transportation.

Purpose: Provide the maintenance and repair of Valley Transit Commuter fleet and facilties; coordinate with the staff to ensure procedures for safe working conditions; ensure Valley Transit compliance with ARRC rules and regulations by all personnel. Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for maintenance, and repair of vehicles, establishment and continual maintenance fleet service records. Coordinate and schedule vehicles for preventive maintenance. Schedule is Monday-Friday 9a-6p with hour lunch, must be avaiablable for call outs.

Maintains Audit and Operational Testing records. Prepare and maintain vehicle specifications that would be used by Valley Transit. Diagnose vehicular problems and make arrangements for repairs.

Takes action to correct safety deficiencies and provide a safe working environment.

Inspects equipment and vehicles for fleet safety and compliance with industry standards for FRA, OSHA, ANSI and NIOSH and other pertinent regulations. Resolve vehicle breakdowns when they occur including performance of road calls and related travel when breakdowns occur in route. Investigates accidents and incidents and provides information to Valley Transit management’s staff and the Board of Directors as needed. Audits transit operating personnel for compliance with ARRC Rules and Regulations as well as all applicable Valley Transit policies and procedures.

Works with procurement staff to acquire and stock equipment components through best management practice. Monitors purchases of equipment related materials to ensure efficient utilization of budgeted resources. Ensures ARRC purchasing policies and procedures are adhered to. Work closely with vendors for repairs, tires, etc. Dispatch substitute vehicles during breakdown emergencies and document breakdown in vehicle file.

Document and record all commuter maintenance, repairs, tire rotation, mileage traveled and replacement service to file and document as directed by the Commuter Manager and/or Executive Director for Board Reports.

Other duties as assigned according to the general position description.

Job Requirements:

Tools required for the maintenance of fleet. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

The position is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) - Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, applicants of safety-sensitive positions are required (even if ultimately not hired) to provide Valley Transit with signed written releases requesting USDOT drug and alcohol records from all previous, USDOT-covered, employers that the applicant has worked for within the last two years. Failure to do so will result in the employment offer being rescinded. Valley Transit is also required to ask all applicants (even if ultimately not hired) if they have tested positive or refused to test on a pre-employment test for any USDOT covered employer within the last two years.

Compensation: $40 - $50 a hour. Benefits include: paid holidays, paid time off, IRA match, and health. Compensation & benefits are evaluated annually and subject to change based on budgetary constraints.
