Te Wero – The Challenge

As a Financial Accountant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of the Far North District Council. This is a dynamic position where accuracy, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence are essential. You’ll be responsible for:

Preparing annual report working papers, financial statements, and note disclosures through to final audit completion.
Reconciling Balance Sheet and other accounts.
Preparing regular financial and statistical returns.
Managing quarterly and end-of-year rate payments to Northland Regional Council.
Oversight of Statement of Service Performance measures.

You’ll also contribute to practical financial reporting, and compliance, while supporting managers and staff with timely, accurate information.


I ā koe - About You

We need someone who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative mindset. Ideally, you have:
A relevant business qualification (minimum Accounting Technician membership of CAANZ) or at least 3 years’ experience in a financial accounting role.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and large financial management systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
Confidence, initiative, and the ability to work independently.
A team-focused attitude and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding customer service.
A progressive mindset with a passion for continual improvement.

The salary for this position is Grade 15 within Council's salary structure (Band: $81,304 to $95,652 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
