Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Driver Trainer to develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for new and existing drivers. The ideal candidate will possess strong instructional design skills, expertise as a school bus driver, and excellent communication abilities. This role is essential in ensuring our drivers are well-trained, compliant with safety standards, and equipped with the necessary skills to excel. The Driver Trainer will collaborate closely with other members of the Transportation team to foster a culture of continuous learning and development.
Responsibilities
Develop, deliver, and update driver training programs aligned with Provincial regulations and Divisional policies, including classroom and on‑road instruction.
Plan and deliver mandatory annual professional development sessions for bus drivers.
Conduct driver evaluations, provide performance feedback, and support improvement in driving and student management.
Support drivers with route changes, student behavior strategies, and safe transportation practices.
Coordinate and conduct twice‑yearly bus evacuation drills for all schools.
Assist with recruitment and onboarding of drivers, including interviews, reference checks, and documentation.
Maintain accurate training, evaluation, and compliance records while collaborating with schools, families, and departments to support safe, inclusive student transportation, including special‑needs accommodation.
Provide on‑site training and evaluations across locations, with required travel and flexible hours that may exceed 8 hours.
Demonstrate strong communication, organization, confidentiality and ability to work independently and flexibly, including driving routes when required.
Qualifications
Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent
Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a school bus driver
Valid Manitoba Class 2 Driver’s License with School Bus Operator Certificate (SBOC)
Minimum one (1) year experience as a School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) with current certification
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint)
Pay: $59,558.76 per year
