Job Summary

A tour bus driver is a person who is hired by a travel and tourism company or agency to drive a bus which takes people to tours in and out of the city. A tour bus driver must be well aware of all the important routes and shortcuts on which the bus is to travel. Any person holding a bus driving license and expertise in handling a bus can become a tour bus driver

Responsibilities and Duties

A tour bus driver’s primary responsibility is to know the exact route of the tour which the bus is supposed to take.

A tour bus driver is also responsible for picking up and dropping off passengers and collecting the tour travelling fare from them, if not already paid to the travel and tourism company.

A tour bus driver is responsible for keeping the bus clean from inside and outside.

A tour bus driver is also responsible for the maintenance and repair of the bus which must be done on a regular basis so that the bus can travel long distances without any hindrance or difficulty.

It is the responsibility of a tour bus driver to see to the fact that every passenger is safe during the tour and all the traffic rules and regulations are followed.

It is the responsibility of the tour bus driver to see whether or not all passengers are comfortable and are provided with the first aid kit in the time of need.

Key Skills

Must be a holder of a suitable commercial driving license (CDL) to operate a passenger bus Must have good understanding of engine operation as well as bus heating and airconditioning systems to ensure that reports about bus operating problems are accurate and serviceable

Required Experience and Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent in apprenticeship years as a bus driver is basic.

A thorough knowledge of city and suburban streets as well as an adequate grasp of GPS navigational and road map reading is basic to the job.
