Introduction:
Challenging roles covering in totality all products within BUK. Working within a pooled team of analysts and reporting to a collections manager, the job holder will support the core goals and objectives of the BFA Risk Team, with particular focus on Business Banking.
Role holders will be responsible for carrying out detailed levels of analytics to support the development, optimisation and subsequent performance monitoring of the Collection and Recoveries Credit Risk minimum strategy requirements and frameworks. Role holders will be expected to take a proactive approach to analytics and be able to work autonomously.
This role will also require providing appropriate 2nd Line of Defense Risk oversight and governance of Collection Operations. This will also include helping to ensure compliance to and embedment of, Group Policies/Local Business standards and Regulatory compliant solutions by the Operation, through appropriate and independent oversight.
This role will require the job holder to engage with a variety of Stakeholders outside of the BFA Risk team, including Operations, Legal and Compliance as well as the Product Business teams.
What will you be doing?
Controls & Governance c. 10%
• Support the embedment of a governance framework between Risk, Product and Operations, attending and contributing to relevant committees that facilitates Risk fulfilling their role as an independent second line of defence, as required by the Heads of Secured/Unsecured, Risk
• Support the review of completeness and effectiveness of first line operational controls as required by the Head Secured/Unsecured, Risk, including adherence to minimum risk requirements
• Help identification & escalate emerging risks (all types) & issues to Head of Secured/Unsecured Risk/relevant forum / committee
Risk segmentation, Toolkit Development and Government Schemes c50%
Through analytics, support the program of continuous improvement across all key elements of collections activities, in particular driving optimisation of minimum risk requirements and segmentation, from Pre arrears, through forbearance, core collections and recoveries strategies and debt placement, as appropriate:
• Undertake analysis and propose appropriate risk segmentation to drive minimum strategy requirements
• Support ongoing tracking and performance of end to end (Collections & Recoveries) minimum risk strategy requirements, including the framework for the treatment of the customer (e.g. self-cure period, when contact should start, thresholds for number of attempts etc). Propose adjustments as appropriate
• Support review and continued optimisation of a remedial toolkit for all stages in C&R providing solutions for short and long term financial difficulties (ensuring compliance with Policy and Regulation), including correct forbearance classifications
Review Process & Performance Management c. 30%
• Support the team to ensure appropriate MI in place to allow for effective monitoring of portfolio performance & early identification of areas outside appetite, with clearly defined routes for escalation
• Support the team to drive optimal forbearance reporting which is compliant with Group policies/standards and Regulation
• Using MI, provide structured check and challenge of current performance trends with clear feedback loop into strategy optimisation
• Investigate (analytically) unexpected changes in performance escalating/ disseminating findings through appropriate channels
• Support the team to provide oversight to operational capacity planning process
Strategic Agenda c.10%
• As an SME, engage proactively to assist analytically in any strategic programs of change/optimization/Regulatory improvements, including activities from the Risk Strategic Agenda, Operations Transactional Cycle 12 workstream and Government Schemes
What we're looking for:
• Strong SAS/SQL
• Strong communication skills (written and oral), with ability to articulate complex issues at an intuitive level to a non risk audience
• Ability to think creatively - to challenge the norm and drive through solutions in the face of adversity and challenge
Skills that will help you in the role:
• Good understanding and experience of working in a Retail Credit Risk environment, preferably with Business Banking knowledge
• Awareness of Regulatory landscape and requirements governing Risk, specifically BFA.
