Ward Clerks assist nursing staff by providing indirect patient care under the direction and supervision of the nurse in charge of the shift in the allocated area. First and foremost the Ward Clerk is the first contact for patients, families and health professionals visiting and telephoning the ward.

The responsibilities of a Ward boy/Girl are to ensure that those under their care receive timely medication, assist in daily routines and tasks that some patients will not be able to perform themselves, and also help maintain a suitable environment for a patient's recovery.
