About the role

The position is funded by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) as part of its Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE). A key workstream of the ESCoE programme is the improved measurement and presentation of natural capital, both in extended national accounts and in other published economic accounts. The focus of this post is to contribute to ONS’s measurement of natural capital in both physical and monetary terms, and its communication to decision makers and other stakeholders.

The salary bracket for this post is £43,124 - £51,610 (including London Allowance) with appointments generally made at the lower end of the scale.

This post is available from January 2026 and is funded for 15 months in the first instance; further funding to support the post may become available.

About you

The applicant will be required to have a PhD in an area relevant to natural capital measurement and accounting, and demonstrate knowledge of natural capital concepts and approaches to its measurement (e.g. stock/flow differences, ecosystem services, environmental valuation methods) and have experience of research in some or all of national accounting, natural capital, environmental valuation, input-output analysis and related topics.
