We’re looking for a Associate Patent Attorney for our Chemistry team. A minimum requirement for this role is a PhD in a Chemistry related discipline and expertise in; organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry or chemical biology.



The successful candidate will need to show previously demonstrated experience in:

Carrying out local business development activities.
Drafting and filing patent applications for local clients.
Conducting patent oppositions, including preparation of statements and evidence, briefing counsel and conducting/preparing for hearings.
Litigation activities.


We are looking for the candidate to join our Melbourne team on a Full-time basis. This position plays an essential role in the smooth and efficient running of our Patent practice. Offering Hybrid work arrangements.



Desired Skills

Excellent communication skills with a strong command of written and verbal English.
Able to understand, and critically analyse information, and think laterally.
Able to clearly and concisely communicate in writing.
Well organised and self motivated.


Key Responsibilities

Taking responsibility for developing external and internal clients to bring in new business and grow.
Advising on patentability of inventions.
Advising on matters of patent law, including novelty and inventiveness requirements.
Conducting/arranging patent searches where appropriate.
Interpreting technical results of the searches and advising clients.
