Your tasks will include:

• Incident Management and Troubleshooting: Investigating and resolving defects, incidents, and problems. Collaborate with Lead Database Engineers and other teams as needed to ensure issues are addressed within agreed SLAs.
• Database Administration: Performing lifecycle management tasks, including database provisioning, patching, upgrading, backup, and recovery. Manage user access, conduct monitoring, and implement alerting to maintain operational health.
• Optimisation and Tuning: Applying performance tuning and optimisation techniques to ensure databases operate efficiently.
• Collaboration and Change Management: Working closely with colleagues, project teams, and external partners to support and manage changes safely and efficiently within the database environment.
• On-Call and Out-of-Hours Support: After a period of training, you will join a 24/7 on-call rotation, providing out-of-hours support as needed (additional compensation applies).

Your background and experience:
• Database Administration Expertise: Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Oracle and SQL Server in a production environment.
• Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve production issues, with skills in making recommendations for system changes.
• Full Database Lifecycle Management: Experience with database builds, patching, upgrades, and an understanding of High Availability and Disaster Recovery methods.
• Operating System Proficiency: Understanding / familiarity with the likes of Oracle, Red Hat Linux, Windows, AIX, and Solaris.
• Performance Tuning and Optimisation: Expertise in database performance tuning to ensure optimal performance.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team and manage relationships with stakeholders.
• Flexibility and Ownership: Willingness to work beyond core hours when required, with a strong commitment to professional development.

Nice to Have Skills:
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and Grid Infrastructure.
• Experience with Oracle Data Guard and Oracle Cloud Control.
• Familiarity with Flashback technologies for data recovery.
• Awareness of ITIL Service Management processes (Incident, Change & Problem Management).

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced, supportive environment where your contributions will make a tangible impact on the bank’s operational resilience.

In return you will receive a competitive salary, opportunities for skill development, and additional compensation for out-of-hours support.
