We are a global digital news network of online brands looking for Australian-based journalists/reporters with knowledge and interest in hard news, pop culture, entertainment, and crime.

We are seeking suitability qualified candidates to help expand our 24/7 coverage.

To be considered, you must be an enterprising journalist who can find, report, and write eye-catching and exclusive stories.

Must have a demonstrated ability in a breaking news environment and to write quick, clean copy for the web that is accurate and concise as well as fun and engaging to read.

A talent for finding fresh angles on the news stories of the day, while consistently pitching fresh, creative, and overlooked stories is a pre-requisite.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cover breaking news on a real-time basis, generating 5-7 well-sourced stories per day that take readers beyond the headline
Pursue exclusive scoops
Develop longer enterprise and investigative pieces as needed
Write clean and vibrant SEO-optimized copy
Ability to brainstorm, collate ideas and thoroughly report them out
Ability to spot viral stories or a compelling angle not covered by other publications and the ability to re-work a local story with a national angle
An understanding of how to navigate court documents, the inner workings of local authorities and how to simply explain complex issues
Manage production and publishing of digital content, packaging each story with headlines and visuals (photos and multi-media) that are unique to our brand
Program homepage at times, ensuring a balance of the most important, interesting, and attention-grabbing stories of the moment
A strong roster of contacts and sources or desire to build an international rolodex
Use analytics-driven decision making in selecting content
Assist with breaking news, including social amplification sending out push notifications
Collaborate with reporters and editors across internal editorial departments/brands
QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent editorial judgment and communication skills
Exceptional skill set in editing, writing, or reporting
Proven ability to write pithy, web-friendly headlines
Ability to leverage multimedia content to enhance stories and user experience
Excellence in time management and confidence multitasking
Experience using content management systems, photo editing software and web analytics tools
Knowledge of SEO best practices and social trends
Flexibility to work night shifts and weekends as required
