This position will work in collaboration with several programs in School of Health Sciences (SoHS). Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Placements, this position will set annual priorities for meeting the various and emerging needs of School of Health Sciences. Time allotted per program will vary throughout the year and will be determined prior to the beginning of each semester.
Specific Duties
Primary Duties
In consultation with faculty, prepare “set-up” as necessary for lab demonstrations or procedures to be practiced by students or for testing of students. In consultation with faculty utilizes timetables, course syllabi, and lab manuals to prepare, set out and cleanup teaching supplies and equipment as required by Health Science programs.
Maintains laboratory, equipment, instruments, laundry and work areas in a clean, workable and safe condition, including disposal and/or arranging for disposal of biohazardous waste.
Assist with equipment repairs when necessary.
Set up and maintain inventory control system and records for laboratory equipment and various learning supplies, and materials.
Source and order various learning items not classified as equipment.
Assess and identify the need for new equipment or capital supplies prior to yearly budget preparation each year and submit business case(s) to the Manager, Clinical Placements.
Assist with procurement of capital supplies.
Assist program instructors in quality control procedures and documentation as required for programs.
Prepare and maintain procedure manuals, inventory logbooks and maintenance logs for instruments and equipment to meet Program Review and accreditation requirements.
Maintain the quality of instructional collections.
Monitor the equipment, prep and lab area for safety and general functioning. In coordination with the Manager, Clinical Placements and program coordinator(s), request and arrange for repairs to the equipment, as necessary. Assist in longer term shutdowns of labs as required for the programs.
In coordination with the Manager, Clinical Placements and program coordinator(s), request and arrange preventive/regular maintenance to the equipment.
Monitor WHMIS and biosafety compliance within the lab/work area including keeping an inventory of controlled products, maintaining the MSDS records, and ensuring containers of controlled products have correct WHMIS labelling
Monitor and supervise students in daily quality control procedures of lab and for safety in the lab.
Acquire quotes for equipment and service agreements. Submit requisitions for equipment and secure service agreement contracts.
Distribution, maintenance and tracking of learning aids, loaned to students.
Track monthly supply budget for assigned Health Science programs.
Keep track of fees, refunds, paperwork for students’ supplies, learning aids and safety devices. Includes students that may return to the program if they exited early.
