Laboratory Technician (Asbestos)

EMSL Canada is seeking a Laboratory Technician (Asbestos) in Mississauga, ON. The technician supports the laboratory analysts by preparing samples for analysis. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Preparation of environmental samples (air, water, food and bulk materials) for PLM and TEM analysis
Support all sample-related activities, including organization, preservation, preparation, and disposal
Record data in clear and concise manner
Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
Communicate with co-workers and management regarding timelines and workloads
Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
Participate in internal and external audits
Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager

Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent
Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is a plus
Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
Ability to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 40lbs continuously and standing for various lengths of time
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability and a positive attitude
Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance

Available Shift:
Position is full-time Monday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Training schedule to start will be Monday to Friday +:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
