Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

About the Role

The Specialist, Labour and Employee Relations provides compliance and risk-based labour relations and employment law guidance and advice to the line organization and other members of Human Resources on day-to-day administration and interpretation of the CUPE Local 3338, TSSU and the Poly Party collective agreements and University policies relating to APSA and excluded employees. The role works closely with Labour Relations Advisors to support first-level negotiations or step-1 grievances, conducting investigations, developing reports and providing advice and responds to requests for advice or interpretations. The role supports bargaining processes by drafting bargaining proposals, overseeing the exchange of documents with the union and tracking the University's positions, and by managing the Public Sector Employer Council (PSEC) costing spreadsheets. The Specialist plays a key role in process improvement and special projects within the Labour Relations unit and provides guidance and direction to the Labour Relations Assistant as required.
