Position Summary
Reporting to and supervised by the Campus Library Technician – Level II/III/Coordinator of Library Services, the Library Technician works in conjunction with other Campus/College-wide library staff, contributes to effective campus library services and facility operations, and provides general library support to students, faculty and staff at North Island College.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Performs circulation tasks including charging/discharging library materials and collecting fines.
2. Processes inter-campus/inter-library loan requests for print, digital and media, utilizing automated systems and following established policies and procedures; may be called upon to oversee College-wide Illume inter-library loans.
3. Removes flags from student accounts on Colleague as needed.
4. Provides both virtual and in-person reference and research assistance
5. Provides both virtual and in-person group and individual library instruction and assists students with catalog, database and Internet searching.
6. Maintains the physical library collection and space, including book repair, shelf arrangement and assisting with inventory, weeding projects, and moving furniture.
7. Processes new library materials by attaching labels, security strips and book covers.
8. Troubleshoots problems with equipment such as computers and multi-function printer. Informs and assists library patrons with the pay-for-print system
+. Assists in the training of, and delegates work to student helpers, where applicable.
10. Maintains periodical collection including shelf arrangement, claims, subscriptions renewals and holdings lists.
11. Prepares library fine and book replacement deposits and forwards to Student Services.
12. Maintains Reserve collection, including adding and deleting holdings in the library catalog and keeping appropriate records.
13. Consults with Faculty on such matters as library orientations and library assignments.
14. Participates in such projects as developing library handouts and guides, evaluation of reference databases, formulating library procedures and making suggestions for collection purchases
15. Performs other library duties as required, including opening/closing library, sorting and packaging mail, shelving, handing out student cards, creating and/or assemble book displays, compiling and reporting monthly statistics, as needed.
Required Education & Experience
Library Technician diploma program;
- 1- 2 years work experience in an automated library.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
1. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of journal databases and e-resources.
2. Basic level of proficiency with MS Office.
3. Proven communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, with demonstrated ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
4. Good judgment to enable the position holder to work independently, use of initiative and analytical thinking to solve problems.
5. Clearly evidenced organizational and time management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks, ensure attention to detail and efficiently meet deadlines.
6. Skilled in effective team behaviors such as active listening, sharing, balanced participation, and development of shared team goals.
7. Must be adaptable to ongoing change with demonstrated positive attitude, flexibility and operational effectiveness.
