NRL are currently recruiting for a permanent Maintenance Technician (Electrically Biased) to be based on site in Redcar.

This is a permanent role reporting into the Maintenance Manager.

Job Purpose

Fault find, carry out repairs, and maintain production equipment and ancillary equipment keeping them in optimum condition.

Carry out routine inspections and either repair or report defects to management.

To provide support and assistance to the production and engineering departments as well as improving the service provided by the maintenance department.

Principal Accountabilities

To perform the duties of Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance Technician by attending breakdowns, identify fault and problem solve with minimal downtime to production.

To improve machinery and facilities reliability through maintenance activities, modification, and good engineering practises.

To carry out routine preventative maintenance activities ensuring equipment performance is maintained and optimised, this includes granulators and shredders.

Make full use of the computerised maintenance management system and log completion of work on all required maintenance management systems accurately, and in a timely and professional manner.

Control usable consumable blades, knives and stones etc. ensuring health and safety standards are maintained

Carry out fault finding and repairs in breakdown situations, using engineering drawings and machine manuals

Carry out PPM and shutdown schedules as necessary and planned work orders as required and provide feedback to develop the system.

Assist the MRO and Stores team to identify and maintain spares requirements and accurately log usage.

To provide support to the other Polymers business units when there is a business requirement to do so, and to work alongside external suppliers / contractors

Undergo training to maintain or improve competency and skill levels

Plan and prioritise workload to support production and ensure efficient use of working time.

Work within 5S (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardise, and Sustain) methodology to maintain workplace to a high standard.

Carry out any other such reasonable job-related tasks as the company may require you to undertake from time to time.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Maintenance Technician has three main accountabilities within the 24 hours, 7 days a week facility:

To carry out fault finding on process, ancillary and other support equipment and to effectively carry out all repairs necessary to resolve the breakdown.

Ensure that the current plant equipment is correctly maintained on a day-to-day basis allowing it to be operated to its maximum efficiency and capability to meet business KPI’s.

To assist the Biffa Polymers Engineering team with projects to modify processes to improve performance and in the decommissioning of redundant equipment and the installation of new equipment.

To correctly install blades into the various granulators, ensuring they are set correctly to perform at the optimum level.

The planning horizons involved in this role are varied. Most of the process equipment is taken out of production for approximately 10 hours per week to allow routine maintenance work to be carried out. Emergency reactive tasks for this role must be planned with less than 5 minutes’ notice when breakdowns occur.

Electrically Biased

This position is required to undertake all electrical activities on their shift as well as carry out mechanical work and welding / fabrication work if competent to do so.

The post-holder should be able to demonstrate hands on mechanical dexterity skills as well as being a competent fault finder on electrical relay logic circuits, PLC controlled systems and motor controls and drives. The post holder must also be competent in carrying out repairs and or replacing electrical controls and motors etc.

This position will operate with a degree of autonomy working within the parameters of department deliverables and health and safety legislation.

The position requires the ability to work in partnership with production operators and managers as well as other maintenance technicians and management.

DESIRABLE

Education / Qualifications

(Academic, Professional and Vocational)

Engineering qualification in electrical or mechanical maintenance

Qualification in multi-skilled engineering

Time served in engineering maintenance

Experience

(Electrical Bias)

Maintaining production machinery

Fault finding in control panels on PLC’s, VSD’s and relay logic circuits

Fault finding on / replacing motors including Star Delta

Experience working in a Engineering / Maintenance team

Experience working on rotating equipment

Experience

Technical Knowledge

Numeracy and ability to understand numerical data

Good understanding of engineering and quality standards

Knowledge of plastics processing equipment i.e. extruding equipment

Knowledge of the recycling industry
