Manager, Major Projects


The Manager, Major Projects leads a team of professionals that is responsible for planning, design, construction and completion of facility and parks capital projects. Reporting to the Director, Facilities and Major Projects, this position is a key member of the Facilities and Major Project’s team, ensuring Department operational plans are aligned with Council priorities and achieved in an effective manner.

Duties include:

Provide overall leadership and guidance to the major projects team to ensure the effective delivery of major capital projects within budget, on-time and in an effective manner
Determine team organizational structure and financial resources required to execute capital projects
Oversee the portfolio of capital projects including, assigning staff to projects, monitoring progress, providing project status updates and ensuring projects are delivered to the expected standard.
Collaborate with the Department management team in the prioritization of capital projects and establishment of long-term facility capital plans
Using seasoned communication skills prepare verbal and written reports including Council reports, project updates and briefings, in a concise and clear manner
Ensure effective relationship management practices are used to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with client departments, ensuring projects are defined and delivered to meet client needs
Working with the Communications and Engagement team, ensure effective consultation and communication of projects with key community partners and the general public
Using superior problem-solving and decision-making skills to resolve major challenges on capital projects
Drawing on industry’s best practices, establish and maintain consistent project management and business practices to efficiently deliver capital projects


Required Qualifications

University degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business or related diploma supplemented with equivalent experience
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng), Professional Architect (AIBC), Applied Science Technologist (AScT) or similar designation
Minimum 10 years related experience, including a combination of engineering, construction and project management experience in medium and large sized building construction, renovation, and maintenance projects, preferably in municipal or public sector environment
Additional training in project management, PMP certification considered an asset
Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and familiarity with MS Project
Demonstrated leadership experience with a minimum of 3 years formally supervising staff
Demonstrated public speaking success, communicating professionally and interacting tactfully in public and high- profile situations
Consideration will be provided for those with an equivalent combination of training and experience
A valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required


The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $14+,+07 - $178,76+ (commensurate with experience) and an excellent benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan as well as an earned-day-off system.
