An exciting opportunity for an experienced Managing Principal Solicitor to join a multidisciplinary legal, litigation and legislation project team to deliver priority regulatory and governance reforms.
The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is looking for a Managing Principal Solicitor to join a skilled in-house multidisciplinary legal, litigation and legislation project team within the Legal and Legislation Division in fixed term role.
The Managing Principal Solicitor is a strategic thinker who is highly organised with excellent management, conceptual and analytical skills and a proven ability to build strong relationships and partnerships across business areas, other government agencies and with key stakeholders.
The position requires a leader with a track record in successfully managing and motivating people to deliver a busy, agile work program, and a proven ability to provide clear, accurate and timely advice.
About the role:
In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver priority regulatory and governance reforms, supervise the work of junior lawyers, participate in multi-disciplinary project teams and provide authoritative advice to senior management and staff on a diverse range of legal, litigation and legislation-related issues with a focus on leveraging the division's deep understanding of the department's legal and legislative frameworks to provide relevant, risk-based and solutions-focused advice.
The role is part of a highly skilled legal team who works closely with the department's business areas and key stakeholders to support the delivery of priority policy initiatives, programs and operations for the Victorian community to optimise success and minimise and mitigate risks for government.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
An Australian lawyer holding or eligible to hold an Australian practising certificate under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria).
Demonstrated ability to manage litigation at a senior level and provide and supervise the delivery of legal advice in relation to at least two of the following areas - public and administrative law (including litigation), statutory interpretation, development of primary and subordinate legislation.
Demonstrated experience in leading a team and the management and allocation of workflow and resources.
Experience in delivering complex regulatory reform, highly regarded.
This is a fixed term position available until 30 June 2026. The work location for this position is 2 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne with hybrid work arrangements available.
