He aha te mea nui tea o? He tangata he tangata, he tangata! .................... What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is…
Make no bones about it - this is a long ad! No need to read it all in one sitting (go straight to the headlines you’re interested in), but we figure that we all spend such a huge chunk of our time working that it’s important to know where this role fits, what’s involved, who you’ll be rubbing shoulders with on the day-to-day, and what your career trajectory might look like if you work for us. The people we like to hire are naturally curious, and curious people have questions….so we’ve provided some of the answers for you below.

A Little Bit About Us

We’re a NZ owned Tech Consultancy with a lot going on… we get a kick out of disrupting the status quo to create bold new ways of working, engaging with clients at several levels. We have an advisory business where we consult at the Enterprise level, advising clients on how to transform their business model and the technology architecture that underpins this; we also have a delivery team which get their hands dirty building varying architectures and solutions to drive transformation; and if that isn’t enough, there is another team that builds bespoke applications for our clients, replacing old-school manual processes or out-dated technology. This role will provide Marketing magic across all areas of our business.

Why Are We Recruiting This Role?

We’ve recently shuffled some individuals and teams around to better position us for growth. To date, we’ve outsourced all things Marketing & Brand and also been supported by a contractor, but we’ve reached a point in our journey where we need to take things to the next level. We’re bigger than we were and, most importantly, we’re charging ahead in our growth plans and will get bigger and more diverse, and this means that we can now take advantage of having someone with a true Voco hat on who can own this function and drive it forward. Exciting times ahead!!

Role – What Does It Involve

As our Marketing Manager, you will lead and execute Voco’s marketing strategy, managing a wide range of activities including brand management, lead generation, promotional campaigns, event management, social media, website optimisation and the creation of marketing collateral. You will collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging, enhance brand visibility and effectively promote Voco’s services. This role requires a creative, results-oriented approach, with a focus on driving measurable business outcomes.

We’re seeking someone with experience in B2B marketing – this is significantly different to consumer marketing and involves an entirely different strategy and approach. You’ll know what it’s like to develop the overall marketing strategy and still be hands-on enough to manage the day-to-day, delivering high-quality marketing collateral and content that supports our business initiatives.

Marketing Experience: 5+ years’ business-to-business marketing experience, preferably in technology services with a proven track record of developing and executing lead generation strategies across multiple channels.
Content Creation: Proven ability to create compelling marketing materials and content that align with brand messaging (incl. case studies, whitepapers, brochures & presentations, as well as engaging content for blogs, social media and email campaigns). It’s hoped that you have terrific copy writing skills, that is both engaging and compelling and targets our key audiences head-on.
Yes, we’re happy to still engage with external specialists where we need to, but the less we do of that, the more budget we have to play with to activate some really clever initiatives. You’ll also need to drive website traffic growth and improve SEO performance, leading to increased lead conversion rates.

The role won’t (yet) have any direct reports – as we grow we may need to hire additional marketing capability – until then, you’ll be ‘managing’ outcomes, external agencies when needed and influencing decision-making.

Who’s Our Ideal Person For The Role?

We believe that people work in different ways, think in different ways and are motivated by different things and, as a values-based company, we focus on hiring people who, most importantly, share and uphold our values, which are:

Purposefully Restless – this is about being curious and improvement focused.
Getting Sh*t Done – this is about having a sense of urgency, a sense of importance and the tenacity to navigate through ambiguity and push past roadblocks.
Trusted Powerhouse – this is about being trustworthy and reliable and committed to the goal.
People First – this is about working well with others, collaborating, and treating others as you would want to be treated.
Pick Your Hours And Days

We envisage this role to be circa 24hrs a week. It may grow over-time but, for now, this is a part-time gig. Who likes Mondays? We hope you do – we have a Connect Day on Mondays where we all come into the office and ‘work as a wider team’. We’re a Tech Consultancy and that means our Consultants spend a chunk of the working week working directly with clients, often at their offices, so we carve out the beginning of the week to work together, just us. It’s social, it’s fun – we usually go out for lunch together, there’s endless snakes (Freudian slip – I mean snacks!), drinks in the fridge, toffee-pops hidden behind the drinks! (not mentioning any names, Vaughn). We’re based in the heart of the CBD, so super easy to get to by any form of transport and plenty of eateries and shops in hopping distance.

What happens after Monday? You decide! Get your two other days done and dusted and have a 4 day weekend, every week!! Or maybe Mon/Wed/Fri is more your thing? Or how about 5 days a week, with reduced working sandwiched by drop-offs and picks-ups? Create the life you want and work in between!!

Your Career Scope at Voco

Well, this role is just gonna get bigger! Part-time initially, but then as we continue to grow, maybe that means building a team to support you, or maybe it means extending your role and working fulltime, or maybe it means a bit of both. Grow with us!!

What’s It Like To Work at Voco – What’s Our Culture Like? What About Our Values?

No matter what team you’re in, you’ll be challenged regularly – the work we do is at the forefront of change. There are lots of unknowns, and that’s what makes it so exciting. We promise you a leadership team that is invested in you and interested in you. Being privately owned means that we know the value of our people and do everything we can to ensure we provide ongoing challenging work that interests you, a fabulous working environment and the flexibility you need to do your best work.

We operate transparently and without internal politics, so that you can do some of the best work of your career because you know what’s expected and the role you play in getting there. We’re also truly values-led, not profit-led - and as a result, we’re incredibly successful and profitable; because when you put people first – employees, contractors and clients – then success happens naturally.

We're fiercely proud to be NZ owned - there are no global voices telling us what we can/can't do, no global profit agendas which stifle your creativity and ability to meet the needs of the local market. No global financial eyes that see NZ as simply a regional cost centre that never gets enough focus or investment in. Most of all, you have the remit to use your judgment and expertise to initiate change and influence how things are done - no inheriting direction from the global mothership.

Feedback across the business is that the work is super interesting and there’s tons of variety and exposure to lots of different business contexts. Our people get a kick out of delivering massive improvements that really make a difference!

The name Voco means to have a voice; to express yourself. And this is our promise to everyone who works for us – we want you to have a voice because what you think matters, and the work you do matters, and whether you are enjoying the work you do whilst you are working for us, matters. Why? Because you’re a human being with hopes and dreams and talent and potential and if we can tap into that then we are well on our way to doing the best work of our lives and having fun along the way….and then our clients will be happy…and then they’ll come back for more…and so the circle goes. If we look after you, then you’ll look after our clients and they will look after us. It sure ain’t rocket science!

At Voco, we believe that we’re in this together – all working towards the same goals, with lots of ways to get there, and that it’s our people who differentiate us from our competitors. Yep, we actually believe this! (unlike 101 companies out there who are content to just give lip service to it). We hold ourselves accountable to those who work for us, cos that’s the only way they’re gonna stick around for the long haul. And we’re definitely playing the long game – in fact Voco’s been in business for 24 years this year and we have no plans to slow down.

We believe that all people have equal value, regardless of age, disability status, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, religion or ****** orientation and we want everyone who engages with us – whether as a candidate going through our recruitment process, or as an employee or contractor, or as a client or even a supplier – to experience true inclusion and the respect they deserve.

We want anyone and everyone to feel confident to connect with us and apply to our vacancies – we will acknowledge all applications – whilst our aim is always to do so within a few days, sometimes it ends up being a bit longer as we are usually working across multiple vacancies at any one time.

So, what are you waiting for? Either apply to this role yourself or share it with someone you think will love this opportunity and be fabulous in it!!
