Responsibilities
Description Under limited supervision, an employee in this classification is responsible for all the public relations/marketing required to keep the public informed of the programs, events, accomplishments and activities of the Parks & Recreation Department by various communications, media and personal contacts
Responsible for the organization, management, planning, and implementation of special events, community events, cultural events and community outreach
Supervises employees responsible for assisting with the work involved
Must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in accomplishing assignments
Develops relationships with local and relevant businesses to secure support and sponsorship for events and programs
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation

Oversees, coordinates and supervises daily operations of marketing, special events and public relations
Supervises and coordinates activities and functions of subordinate personnel and volunteers
Plans and directs the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of programs and accomplishments through local newspapers, television, computer and radio media; meeting with area groups and organizations; preparing flyers and brochures
Prepares and distributes fact sheets, press releases to media representatives and other persons who may be interested in learning about the marketing departmental activities
Purchases advertising space and time as required
Maintains contact list of media, groups and organizations
Coordinates mass mailings/distribution in the department
Compiles records and submits reports as required
Maintains the department's flyer racks and bulletin boards
Performs other related duties as required
