AS/A Level Mathematics Teacher

This is an instructional role for a dedicated teaching professional whose main assignments will range from teaching AS/A Level Mathematics to students of Grade 11 (AS Level) and Grade 12 (A Level)

What is Avasara Academy?

Avasara Academy is a nonprofit institution located in Lavale Valley, just outside Pune, India. We are an all girls school with a mission to empower girls of promise to lead lives of distinction and impact. Avasara Academy currently enrolls 375 students in standards 6-12 and will eventually have an enrollment of 500 students in standards 6-12.

Students are selected to attend the Academy based on merit alone. They engage in our specialized curriculum that combines the academic excellence of the Cambridge curriculum with a focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, and Indian studies. Students participate in hands-on leadership and real-world experiences culminating in either an entrepreneurial business or social initiative that serves as a platform for their leadership development. Avasara will continue to nurture these leaders throughout their lives by connecting them to powerful networks of people and capital that can facilitate large-scale change. Avasara Academy, therefore, is not just a school but a life-long network that will cultivate innovative, entrepreneurial leaders.

Teaching AS/A Level Mathematics at Avasara Academy

Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics develops a set of transferable skills. These include the skill of working with mathematical information, as well as the ability to think logically and independently, consider accuracy, model situations mathematically, analyse results and reflect on findings. Learners can apply these skills across a wide range of subjects and the skills equip them well for progression to higher education or directly into employment.

In this new age of technology and information at our fingertips, memorizing procedures and formulas is not as important as it once was. Because of this, even though teaching mathematical procedures is important, it doesn’t have as much value as it did in the past. At Avasara Academy, we want to embrace the future by teaching maths in a way that will add a high value to students’ education.

We expect our teachers to be able to teach in a way such that it enables students to :
• develop their mathematical knowledge and skills in a way which encourages confidence and provides satisfaction and enjoyment
• develop an understanding of mathematical principles and an appreciation of mathematics as a logical and coherent subject
• acquire a range of mathematical skills, particularly those which will enable them to use applications of mathematics in the context of everyday situations and of other subjects they may be studying
• develop the ability to analyse problems logically
• recognise when and how a situation may be represented mathematically, identify and interpret relevant factors
• and select an appropriate mathematical method to solve the problem
• use mathematics as a means of communication with emphasis on the use of clear expression
• acquire the mathematical background necessary for further study in mathematics or related subjects.
• Be able to help students develop a solid understanding of mathematical concepts that can be used in and out of the classroom
• Be able to help students to learn procedural maths so that they will be able to solve mathematical problems and do well on standardized exams
• Be able to help students develop skills that can be transferred to other situations such as designing, modifying, being creative, and analysing

Key Responsibilities
• Document curricula, lesson plans and assessments accurately and clearly.
• Contribute to setting departmental goals and enhancing coordination across the curriculum.

• Provide for transparent, constructive and ongoing evaluation of self and peers.
• Contribute to school-wide goals and objectives.
• Serve and lead committees as required.
• Engage with and value all staff members, students, families, visitors and supporters.

Profile of the Ideal Candidate
• A Master’s Degree with specialisation in Mathematics or an equivalent post graduate qualification.
• You have prior Classroom teaching experience for Cambridge AS/A-Level, International Baccalaureate (IB), Senior Secondary in ISC/CBSE Mathematics.
• IGCSE/AS/A mathematics to students of Grade +,10,11,12.
• You are fluent in English.
• Experience using differentiated instructional practices, and able to teach students of mixed abilities through differentiated and personalized approaches.
• Reflection-based practice to identify instructional gaps and plan solutions accordingly.
• Experience participating in teams composed of individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and national backgrounds.
• Experience using data to drive instruction.
• You have excellent interpersonal skills.
• You think creatively to identify solutions to problems.
• You are extremely driven and flexible with your working hours.
• You are a highly reflective practitioner.
