A Motor Vehicle Technician position has become available within the Fleet Maintenance Department for the North West Ambulance Service.

This role forms part of the shift system, operating on a two-shift pattern covering seven days a week, with working hours from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm (Monday to Friday) and 7:00 am to 6:00 pm (Saturdays and Sundays).

The position will be based at the Bury Workshop in the Greater Manchester area.

North West Ambulance Service's Fleet Operations sits within the NHS umbrella and provides essential support services for our large ambulance fleet.

Main duties of the job

Technicians are supported by a dedicated management team structure, ensuring the team has everything needed to maximize vehicle throughput and minimize workshop delays and supply chain frustrations.

With over 1,150 vehicles across the entire fleet, each day presents variety and opportunities for technicians to enjoy their working environment among like-minded people.

The working hours align with the current shift system, divided across two teams spanning a seven-day week.

Each team works an average of 37.5 hours over two weeks, typically consisting of four days on shift in one week and three days on shift in the next.

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria

City & Guilds certificate in motor vehicle technology or NVQ Level 3 equivalent qualifications and experience.
Good standard of education; minimum 3 GCSEs or equivalent.
Full Driving Licence.
Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
Desirable criteria

Driving Licence C1 + D1 (working towards).
MOT Tester.

The post holder must have specialist knowledge of motor vehicle electrical systems and mechanical components.
Comprehensive knowledge of various computer-based vehicle diagnostic systems and the ability to analyze and interpret information to determine the best repair option.
Ability to diagnose vehicle faults without access to diagnostic equipment.

Experience working with Vehicle Fleet Management Systems.
